Since Illinois started to reopen and implement Restore Illinois, I have been able to get out and visit more dispensaries across The Prairie State. About a week ago, I visited the recently opened Hatch Wheeling, a recreational dispensary located at 1500 E Lake Cook Road in Wheeling.

While visiting dispensaries integrated with cultivators, I have come to expect the harder sell on their products. I understand the reason. However, I have to say the visit to Hatch was refreshing in that the workers do not have to push one specific brand. Hatch dispensaries are not integrated, but they do keep a wide variety of products, including the most varied selection of glass I’ve seen for sale in a dispensary.

While there, I chose for review an eighth of Cake Breath by Aerīz. Aerīz products have been consistent and reliable as any Illinois cultivator lately. The Cake Breath flower did not disappoint.

Illinois denied Cake Breath’s original name “Puta Breath” (though Arizona approved it), so Aerīz switch the name to Cake Breath. Cake Breath, bred by ThugPug Genetics, is an indica-leaning hybrid cross between Wedding Cake (Seed Junky Genetics) and Mendobreath F2 (Gage Green Genetics). This batch tested at 0.43% THC, 22.49% THCa, 0.13% CBD, and 23.30% total cannabinoids.

The thick knuckle-sized buds were dense, frosty, well trimmed, and full of different shades of green. As soon as the aroma from the container hit, I knew I was going to enjoy this strain. The dynamic smell mixed creamy pine and sweet gas with notes of an interesting funkiness that included sour, citrus, vanilla, and floral diesel.

The flavor followed the aroma with heavy notes of creamy cake melded with sweet pine and floral gas on the front end. The back end was filled caramel, smooth pepper, and that funkiness. Once exhaled, the aftertaste transitioned right back to leaving a creamy, cakey, sweet coating on the tongue.

Cake Breath delivered a quick onset to a cerebral high that fitted like a heavy crown. Early in the buzz, I experienced less of thoughtlock and more of thought wondering. The cerebral focus waned but was engaging, and the body buzz that eventually caught up to the potent head high matched the engaged but a “bit lazy” head high.

Late in the buzz, my appetite surged as my mind and body tired. Each late night I dosed with Cake Breath, I fell asleep quickly and was able to get deep sleep for the first four hours.

Overall, Cake Breath slotted itself in as one of the top creamy-cakey-funky flavor strains I’ve sampled from Illinois cultivators. I medicated with Cake Breath mostly at night and late-late night. I’ve heard Aerīz is coming out with new strains soon. If so, I can’t wait to try them.
