Introduced in 1987, the Ferrari F40 was a celebration of Ferrari's 40th anniversary, designed by Pininfarina and created as a successor to the 288 GTO. One of the most driver-focused cars of its era, the F40 had no radio, carpet, or inner-door panels and a windshield made of plastic. The body was constructed of a combination of Kevlar, carbon fiber, and aluminum. The suspension was double-wishbone, and later cars were given a hydraulic system to change the ride height. The F40 was powered by atwin-turbocharged (2.9L) V8 that is longitudinally mounted in the middle rear section of the car, driving power to the rear via afive-speed manual gearbox. The vehicle produced 471hp, launching from 0-62mph in just 4.7 seconds. The F40 was also a seminal moment for Ferrari because it is considered the last of the "Enzo Era" cars since it was his last sanctioned car before passing away. Only 1315 examples were built, and after production stopped in 1992, Ferrari followed it with the F50.
