One of only four black F50s ever built, this example heads to auction next month. Bring all of your money bags.
Slated to be auctioned off at RM Sotheby's Arizona auction later next month, this is one of just two black F50s that Ferrari built for the American market. The other black U.S.-spec F50 was reportedly crashed a few years ago, making this the only car of its kind in the States. With only 2090 miles on the odometer, it's expected to be pretty expensive—at least $3 million.
When it was new, the Ferrari F50 packed an F1-inspired V12 that made a claimed 513 horsepower and 347 lb.-ft. of torque. With a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds, the F50 was extremely quick, and with only 349 ever built, it's extremely rare. Only four of those were originally painted black, making this an extremely sought-after example.
Interestingly, Ferrari didn't actually sell the F50 when it was new. Instead, in an effort to keep speculators from artificially inflating prices, the F50 was only available as a lease. So while it was originally "priced" at $560,640, buyers were actually required to give Ferrari a $240,000 down payment, then pay $5600 per month for 24 months. At the end of those two years, paying off the car required an additional $150,000. No such dealings will be necessary to buy this example—just bring a briefcase full of cash.
