In 3rd edition – the edition I started with – there were eight size categories: fine, diminutive, tiny, small, medium, large, huge, gargantuan, and colossal. But this was something of an anomaly for D&D. 2nd edition AD&D only went down to 'tiny', as did 4th edition, and 5th edition has followed in this tradition.

All the main five of each Chromatic and Metallic dragon are either Huge or Gargantuan at the Ancient age category. Gargantuan dragons are listed as being 85 feet long, and Huge dragons at 55 feet long. Huge dragons are 12 feet at the shoulder and Gargantuan ones are 16.
