Earlier this week, our Anvil REU students, along with SURF students, were able to attend a presentation on HPC Benchmarking, given by RCAC’s Ryan DeRue. During the presentation, the students learned about the history of benchmarking in computing, why we use benchmarking, and best practices for HPC systems. #REU #Anvil

Anvil, Purdue’s most powerful supercomputer, continues its pursuit of excellence in #HPC as it enters its third year of operations. Funded by a $10 million acquisition grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Anvil began early user operations in November 2021 and entered production operations in February 2022. After two years online, Anvil has more than proven its value. The supercomputer has been used to help nearly 6,000 researchers push the boundaries of scientific exploration in a variety of fields, including artificial intelligence, astrophysics, climatology, and nanotechnology. We are excited to share that RCAC’s Susanna Garner and Laura Theademan will be presenting alongside Dameion Brown from Jackson State University at the 2024 Minority Serving – Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC) Annual Meeting! The Anvil Summer 2024 Research Experience for Undergraduates program has officially begun! Our eight REU students arrived on campus this week and have hit the ground running. The first few days had them take part in a welcome event, desk station set up, a data center tour, and a hands-on training session to ensure the students had everything they needed to get started on their projects. We are excited to see where the summer takes us!#Anvil #REU24
