An Array of Pools & Amenities

The Beach at Mandalay Bay has four pools, including a wave pool, which is the centerpiece of the area.

Spending time at the Mandalay Bay pool complex is a great, family friendly way to enjoy the day. For hotel guests, it is one of the best amenities to enjoy at the Mandalay Bay or the adjacent Delano.

Entrance to the Mandalay Bay pool is free for hotel guests! (It is included in your resort fee.) If you’re not staying at the resort, you can gain access to the pool for the day by reserving a cabana.

The beach, comprised of 2,700 tons of real sand, leads up to the hotel’s gigantic 1.6 million gallon wave pool, which keeps guests cool and entertained with waves that get up to six feet high.

► Travel Insight

One word of caution – the sand gets hot in the summertime, like really hot! So wear your flip flops and be extra mindful if your kids like playing on the beach.

Mandalay Bay Las Vegas Pools - An Honest Review (4)

The Mandalay Bay wave pool is one of the biggest in the world. Wave height can reach six feet high! The waves come on intermittently, and it is lots of fun to bob around in them.

Here’s the one very disappointing thing about the wave pool: you are not allowed to sit on the shore.

One of the things I always do when we go to a water park is sit on the edge of the wave pool and just enjoy the cool water lapping to the shore. It’s a nice way to stay cool and enjoy the pool without having to get fully immersed. (It’s also the best place to to sit and watch the kids if you have younger ones in the water!)

However, you can’t do that here. Lifeguards at the Mandalay Bay pools will make you move if they see you sitting on the shore. They have been tasked with keeping that area clear and they are not shy about asking you to move.

Delano Las Vegas, which is connected to the Mandalay Bay, has its own pool. Guests at both resorts can use any of the pools.

Also connected to the Delano and Mandalay Bay is the Four Seasons Resort. Guests of the Four Seasons have a private pool for their exclusive use, but can also use any of the other Mandalay Bay pools.

There’s a cool chess board in one of the pools if you want to play a game.

Mandalay Bay Las Vegas Pools - An Honest Review (6)

The Mandalay Bay pool also features a stage adjacent to the wave pool, where pool parties and concerts take place (tickets are an additional fee and can be purchased online or from guest services) in the summertime. You can watch the show from the water or on the sand.

Mandalay Bay Lazy River

The Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino is one of only a handful of Vegas hotels (three to be exact!) with a lazy river. The Mandalay Bay lazy river spans a quarter of a mile. It winds in a relaxing loop, landscaped with palm trees and tropical flowers that will truly put you in vacation travel mode. It has a few water falls to cool you down along the way.

You can bring your own inner tubes, or rent one, or just drift through the lazy river without a raft. It can get crowded, however, on busy days.

Cabana Rentals

If you have the budget, renting a cabana at the Mandalay Bay pool is a nice way to ensure you have shade, privacy, and good service.

There are approximately 100 day beds, cabanas, gazebos, bungalows, and villas available for rent, spread across the entire pool area, so you can pick where you want to call home base for the day.

Mandalay Bay Las Vegas Pools - An Honest Review (9)

Mandalay Bay cabana rentals include a refrigerator stocked with drinks and ice, ceiling fan, LCD TV, MP3 docking station, personal safe, chairs, tube rentals, and personalized service throughout the day.

There are also five villas available for rent on the third level, offering spectacular views of Mandalay Bay Beach. Villas accommodate up to 16 guests and include access to a private pool.

The price for a cabana rental begins at $275 and goes up, depending on size and location. The day we were there, the lowest priced available cabana was $600.

Cabanas are an awesome splurge, but if you don’t want to spend the money, there are plenty of lounge chairs available on a first come, first served basis.

I would definitely recommend getting there early though to secure one of the free lounge chairs, especially during peak season, and especially if you want to find some chairs together!

Moorea Beach Club & Daylight Beach Club

The Beach at Mandalay Bay features two pool clubs, Daylight Beach Club and Moorea Beach Club.

Daylight Beach Club is a 50,000 square foot space, featuring a main pool and private pools for cabana guests, plus some of the top DJs and entertainment.

If partying by the pool is your thing and you don’t have kids in tow, give it a go! (Full disclosure: partying by the pool is no longer my thing, so we did not check the beach club out during the busy summer season.)

The Moorea Beach Club is an adult-only area located on the second level of the Mandalay Bay pool’s beach tower. The Moorea Beach Club features exclusive dipping pools, cushioned chaise lounges, relaxing day beds and a private pavilion.

Moorea Beach Club offers a more relaxed European atmosphere and is a “Toptional” area.

Both Daylight Beach Club and Moorea Beach Club require an admission fee and reservations are recommended.

Food & Drink Options at the Mandalay Bay Pool

The Beach at Mandalay Bay offers a number of ways to grab a bite or drink while you’re lounging at the pool.

The Beach Bar and Grill offers everything from light snacks to complete meals. Their menu has the usual fare, including plenty of kid-friendly options, such as burgers, chicken tenders, salads and fries.

If you don’t want to wander over to the restaurant at the Mandalay Bay pool, servers circling the pool area will gladly take your order and deliver it to your lounge chairs.

I ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad for lunch and it was very good and fairly large, but with tip cost over $25. Drinks are pricey as well, but this is typical for Las Vegas.

There are a number of other beach bars and snack shops at the Beach at Mandalay Bay, though some are not always open. Taco Shack is great for a quick lunch, and Sea Breeze Ice Cream and Juices is another option, and as the name suggests serves light snacks and treats.

Mandalay Bay pool also has a number of bars located throughout the complex.

If you want to enjoy a sit-down meal, Border Grill – which is technically located inside the resort near the Convention Center – has an exterior entrance you can easily access from the Mandalay Bay pool area. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Awesome Mexican food!

Pearl Moon Boutique

If you need to pick up some sunscreen or other pool necessities, Pearl Moon Boutique at the Mandalay Bay Las Vegas pool will have you covered!

Located past the main entrance, Pearl Moon’s assortment includes swimwear, shoes, hats, sunglasses and beach bags. Pricey, of course, but a nice shop where you will find whatever you need for a fashionable day at the pool.

Clocking in at 11 acres, The Beach at Mandalay Bay is an expansive space! Here is a map of the Mandalay Bay pool area.

To access the pool from the hotel lobby, take the guest elevators down to the beach level and take a right toward Spa Mandalay. Exit the doors and follow the signs to Mandalay Bay Beach. Continue on the path. The entrance to Mandalay Bay Beach is on the right.

Final Thoughts: Mandalay Bay Pool

Heading to Las Vegas? If you are planning to spend time by the pool, Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino should definitely be on your list.

Not only is the Mandalay Bay one of the most beautiful, family-friendly resorts in Las Vegas, it has one of the best pool areas. In fact, TripAdvisor named it “one of the best pools in the U.S” and Conde Nast Traveler named it “one of the 9 best pools in Las Vegas.”

Overall, we loved the pool at Mandalay Bay, but it can be a little tough to handle on a busy summer day. Unless you get there the first hour or so it’s open or pay for a cabana, you’ll have a hard time finding chairs together. Not a cool way to spend a hot day.

The Beach at Mandalay Bay is located at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, part of MGM Resorts, on the south end of the Vegas Strip. The address is 3950 S. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas.
