The main requirements for being eligible for the post of the president are laid out in Article 58 of the constitution.

A president must be:

  • a citizen of India.

  • 35 years of age or above.

  • qualified to become a member of the Lok Sabha.

  • Current President of India: Droupadi Murmu (15th president of India).

Term of President of India

After being elected, the president takes the oath of office and serves for a period of five years. He/she may, however, remain in the position until a new applicant is chosen for it. The Electoral College has the power to elect him several times. He/ She can run for office again indefinitely.

Impeachment of the President of India
