Horatio's Role in "Hamlet" (2024)

I think that Hamlet asks Horatio to tell his story because he doesn't want to be forgotten. When he is about to die, and he looks at Horatio he knows he will die along with Gertrude, Laertes, and Claudius. He wants people to know what happened, and how Hamlet avenged his father's death. In the book Hamlet feels like he is complete and that he has nothing else to live for so he is happy, but he does not want people to forget him and what he did. Another reason could be that he wants people to hear his story, and know that there is always a punishment for your actions.

I think Hamlet asks horatio to tell his story because he was alongside hamlet for most of the play and knows most of the details of his tragedy. Horatio is Hamlet's bestfriend so he knows him in depth. Horatio can portray hamlet's story better than anyone because of how well he knows him. Hamlet tells horatio to let his story live because he knows that he is about to die and his story is one that can be related to.

I believe Hamlet asks Horatio to tell his story because he wants people to know the real story. He wants a legacy of him especially to be left behind, and he doesn't want to be forgotten. If Horatio does tell Hamlet's story, Hamlet will have the purpose in life he was looking for earlier in the book. While Hamlet is dying, he realizes that if everyone who was a part of what happened is dead, no one in the future will know what happened or know of Hamlet at all. Therefore he wants Horatio to make it known so it isn't forgotten.

I think that Hamlet asks Horatio to tell his story because he wants to be remembered for his bravery. Hamlet wants people to know how he avenged his father's death, and accomplished his number one goal. Horatio is the only character in the play that hasn't betrayed Hamlet. He is the only one that stood by his side throughout the play. This is probably why Hamlet told Horatio to tell people his story. Hamlet wants to be remembered as a hero who avenged the death of his father.

I think Hamlet asks Horatio to tell his story because Hamlet does not want to be forgotten. Horatio is Hamlet's best friend and Horatio is the only one that has not betrayed Hamlet. Hamlet knows that he can trust Horatio. Horatio has never lied to Hamlet and has always believed him. At the end Horatio is the only one alive and able to tell Hamlet's story.

Also, factors of remembrance come into play by ensuring that he will be recognized for his role in this situation. Horatio acts as a best friends towards Hamlet and listens to what he has to say. In Act I, we first see their friendship, and throughout the play that bond does not change. Now at the end of the book, where several characters are turning on each other, Horatio still hasn't betrayed Hamlet.

I believe that one reason Hamlet tells Horatio to tell his story because the people of Denmark deserve to know what their leaders were truly like. It gives the actions that he has done justification. For example, their past king was murdered by their current king and their current king was in the process of trying to kill Hamlet. Horatio is the one character in the story that doesn't turn on Hamlet and stays with him to the end as moral support. No other character in the play showed much interest in Hamlet until he went crazy, and even then, it was just because of his actions.

Before he died, Hamlet wanted to know that the truth would be told. He wanted others know that he did avenge his father. I believe that Hamlet had Horatio tell his story because Horatio had been the most trusting character throughout the play and he knew Hamlet’s true self. He was always on Hamlet’s side helping him and he never betrayed Hamlet like the other characters. Horatio was Hamlet’s one person he went to throughout the play that was able to assist him. For this, Hamlet trusted Horatio to reveal the news and set the story straight.

Unlike other characters in the novel, Horatio does not betray Hamlet. Originally, Hamlet thought he had trustworthy friends, especially Rostencrantz and Guildenstern. Horatio is the only one who proved loyal to him. For this reason, I believe Hamlet is confident that horatio will do the story justice. He wants the truth to be told about the royalty in Denmark. Hamlet wants to be recognized as someone who avenged the murderous death of his father, rather than a character who was simply mad.

I think that Hamlet asked Horatio to tell his story because Hamlet trusts him enough to tell the real truth. Horatio is the only true friend that Hamlet has left. Horatio was there for Hamlet trough all the dark times in his life and can tell the people about what truly happened. Hamlet looks at Horatio and tells him to tell his story, knowing that he is going to die, and he does not want future leaders to go through the same struggles he and his family went though. If Horatio told Hamlet's story, then no one would be able to forget it because it was the full truth.

I believe Hamlet told Horatio to tell the story because he is the only one left that Hamlet can trust. They are the only town that have not betrayed him. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are the prime example of this. They tried to spy on Hamlet for the king instead of just being good friends. I believe that he told Horatio also because he wants everyone to know what really happened.

Hamlet asks Horatio to tell his story because he knows he can trust him. Horatio is one of the only people Hamlet trusts and the same for Horatio. In Act 1 scene 1 the first person Horatio tells about the ghost he sees. Both Horatio and Hamlet are best friends and when Hamlet dies in act 5 scene 2 Hamlet wants others to know his story and Horatio is the best person to help him with this. Horatio's role in Hamlets life is one of the only people he can trust differing from others because he cannot trust anybody else in his life.

I believe Hamlet asked Horatio to tell his story because he was with him through it all. He was always on Hamlet's side and helped him through the hard times. He wanted someone he trusted to tell of his life. Also, all of Hamlet's close family and friends are dead. He is one of the only characters who have not betrayed him. For example, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were spying on him for Claudius when they were supposed to be his best friends. Horatio will tell the truth, explaining to others how Hamlet avenged his father's death before he himself died.

I believe Hamlet asks Horatio to tell his story, because he wants the people of Denmark to know the truth. The people of Denmark need to know the truths of what the royal family of Denmark was really like, who killed the late King Hamlet, and how so many people at Elsinore died in the matter of minutes. In the novel, the people are oblivious to many things, and deserve to know this information. I think Hamlet also wants to be remembered as heroic, and by telling the truth some may think he is. Hamlet tells Horatio to proclaim the truth, because unlike Rosencrantz and Guildenstern who turned out to be fake friends, Horatio is the only person Hamlet can rely on throughout the novel. As seen throughout "Hamlet", Horatio proves his loyalty, and Hamlet can trust him with information. In this way, Hamlet knows that Horatio will tell the truth, and only the truth, to the people of Denmark.

I think that Hamlet asked Horatio to tell his story, because Horatio knows Hamlet better than anyone. Horatio stuck by Hamlet's side through everything, unlike any other character in the play. Hamlet wants the people of Denmark to know the true story of the royal family, rather than just rumors. Horatio is the only person left alive who saw everything first hand. The only time readers ever got a glimpse of what the true Hamlet was like, was when he was with his best friend Horatio. This is way Hamlet told Horatio "...And in this harsh world draw thy breath in pain, to tell my story" (Shakespeare 145). After holding Yorick's skull, Hamlet finally saw what his future really looked like. He finally could see that it does not matter whether you are a king of Macedonia or a jester, everyone ends up the same way-- dead. Hamlet elucidates this point by saying "Alexander died, Alexander was buried, Alexander returneth into dust..." (Shakespeare 129). Hamlet realized then, that he did not want to be just another set of bones that gets thrown out and forgotten just to make room for another dead body, which in time would get thrown out like the bones that once were thrown out to make room for them.

I think Hamlet tells Horatio to tell his story because Hamlet wants the truth to be known and wants his legacy to continue. Throughout the play, Horatio is Hamlet's best friend and does not once betray him like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern do in Act II scene ii. Hamlet trusts Horatio and knows that he will do as he is told. In Act V scene ii, Hamlet is dying. He asks his friend to tell his story because Hamlet's story is an incredible story. Between his uncle killing his father and his girlfriend killing herself, Hamlet had many ups and downs throughout the play. He wants others to hear his story so that others can understand what he went through, and Horatio is the most qualified out of all the characters in my opinion to carry out this task.

I think that Hamlet wanted Horatio to tell his story because Hamlet wants everyone to know what his point of view looked like. He wants everyone to know his motives. Also, he wanted Horatio to carry out the story because he knew that Horatio would tell it truthfully. He couldn't trust the other players like he could trust Horatio. Horatio was the only person to stay truthful and faithful to Hamlet throughout the play. Horatio was a true friend to Hamlet. As shown in the movie clip, Horatio held Hamlet in his arms when he died. The other actors in the play do not care for Hamlet like Horatio does.

I think Hamlet wanted Horatio to tell his story so the truth would not be distorted. As other characters come and go, for example Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, Horatio is a dear friend to Hamlet who will not turn his back on him. Also, Horatio will not tell Hamlet's story in biased manner. He will discuss how Hamlet had to do something to make up for the murder of his father. These are the reasons why I believe Hamlet tells Horatio to tell his story.

Hamlet and Horatio are very good friends. Horatio has been with Hamlet since day one. I think he asks him to tell his story because Horatio will tell it with Hamlet in the best light possible. Horatio is the only person in his life that is trustworthy. All throughout the book Hamlet is being betrayed by people he thought he could trust, but Horatio never stabs him in the back.

I think Hamlet asks Horatio to "absent thee from felicity awhile" to tell his story because Horatio is the only one he trusts. Hamlet knows Horatio is the only true friend he had, and, when telling his story, won't exaggerate Hamlet's faults or shed false light on him. He will tell the story honestly. The reason he asks Horatio to tell his story in the first place is because Hamlet came to an important realization while talking with Horatio and the gravedigger. He concludes that everyone will die, no matter how great they were, and that the only thing that truly lives on is their story. Hamlet wants people to know the truth.

I think hamlet asked Horatio to tall his story for two main reasons. The first reason would be to tell his leguacy and to forever in moralize his tale. The second reason would be to make sure everyone knows his struggles and how to avoid them in the future. When he tells Horatio to tell his story, he tells him because he is his "most bestest friend" and knows he can trust him. In the future on Denmark, Hamlet will live as a hero in the mind, and Claudius will live in infamy for his story will be told.

Hamlet tells Horatio that he wants his story to be told once he is gone so his name will remembered as not the crazy, lovestruck, lonely teenaged boy but as a brave young man that thought about all his actions in such depth that he out smarted his "all knowing" uncle/step dad. Hamlet's relationship with Horatio was different because Horatio never thought anything less of Halmet when he was going through his crazy phase. Horatio also never back stabbed him and was a true loyal friend throughout the whole book unlike the other characters that betrayed Hamlet.
