'Doubt' K-Drama Episode 2 Recap: Is Song Min-a Dead Or Alive? (2024)

In the previous episode of Netflix’s Doubt, we were made privy to the kind of relationship Jang Tae-soo shared with his daughter Ha-bin. Things were not fine between them, and moreover, Tae-soo had no trust whatsoever in his daughter because of what had happened in the past. At the end of the episode, Tae-soo was assigned a murder case, and at the same time, Ha-bin went missing. After going to the crime scene, Tae-soo suspected that his daughter had some role to play in this mess. He didn’t know if she was the killer or the victim at first, but then he found her alive at the end of the episode. Tae-soo desperately wanted to prove himself wrong, and he wanted to believe that his daughter was innocent. But all the evidence pointed towards her, and Tae-soo just couldn’t ignore that. So let’s recap the events of Doubt episode 2 to see what progress Tae-soo made in his investigation.

Spoiler Alert

Did Ha-bin kill her brother and mother?

In the beginning of Doubt episode 2, in a flashback sequence, we saw that Captain Jang Tae-soo’s wife, Ji-su, was extremely unhappy about how he treated his daughter. Tae-soo believed that his little girl had murdered someone, though at that point in time we weren’t told who the victim was. Ji-su kept telling her husband not to suspect their little girl, but Tae-soo just couldn’t do that, because all the evidence pointed towards her. Now, the police had caught Ha-bin in the middle of a forest, close to the place where the entire family had gone to spend some quality time together. There was another kid who had been thrown down the cliff, and the general assumption was that Ha-bin had pushed him off it. Now the law enforcement authorities were adamant about believing that it was not an accident, as otherwise, why would Ha-bin’s clothes have been soaked in blood? At the end of the episode, there was a big revelation made, and we came to know that Tae-soo and Ji-su had another child, Ha-bin’s younger brother.

So, the mystery behind why Tae-soo had a hard time trusting her daughter in episode 1 gets resolved as we come to know about the things that happened back in the day. Also, it makes it clear why Ha-bin was the way she was. It was probably never proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Ha-bin had pushed her brother, but considering Tae-soo gave such importance to facts and evidence, it was hard for him to believe that his daughter was innocent. Probably, the distrust that Tae-soo had for his daughter created a void within her, and her negative feelings became even more extreme after her mother took her life. Tae-soo and Ji-su had decided to file for divorce, and after that, the latter took her own life. Ha-bin, in the first episode, blamed her father for whatever had happened to her mother. Ha-bin told Tae-soo that she stepped in front of the car because she wanted to take her life. She told him that she didn’t go on the field trip because she didn’t want to mingle with other kids, have fun, laugh, and pretend that everything was right in her life. She felt that her life was a mess, and she just wanted to get rid of the baggage once and for all. Tae-soo still found it hard to trust her. He couldn’t help but suspect that she had something to do with the murder case he was investigating.

Was Song Min-a dead or alive?

In CCTV footage, a girl was seen in the parking lot with the same car that was found burned in the previous episode. The girl wore a gray-colored hoodie, exactly what Ha-bin was wearing after she had gone missing. Tae-soo at first thought that it was Ha-bin who had hired the car, and he didn’t know how he would face everything when the truth came out in the open. But then he found out that it was not Ha-bin but the girl named Song Min-a, whom he had seen at the police station after Ha-bin was taken into custody for stealing mobile phones. There was a red-colored microfiber procured from the scene by the forensics team, and Tae-soo saw a keyring-like object of the same color attached to Ha-bin’s school bag. All these coincidences and evidence made Tae-soo believe that his own daughter might be involved in the crime. But thankfully, the blood recovered from near the crime scene didn’t belong to Ha-bin. After the forensics reports came, the police officers learned that the victim probably had diabetes because a drug (usually used to treat diabetes) by the name of Liraglutide was found in the blood.

Later in episode 2, Gu (Koo) Dae-hong, after doing a background search on Min-a, found out that she had purchased that drug, though not because she was suffering from diabetes but because she wanted to reduce her weight. Tae-soo remembered that there were two girls present at the police station when Ha-bin was taken into custody for theft. He came to know that one of the girls was named Park Ji-yeon. He tracked her down and found out that she was involved in sex trafficking together with a guy who seemed to be her pimp, named Choi Yeong-min. The police officers eventually caught hold of Choi Yeong-min and Park Ji-yeon and brought them to the police station for interrogation. Choi Yeong-min didn’t reveal anything, but Park Ji-yeon told Tae-soo certain things that once again made him suspect his daughter. Firstly, Park Ji-yeon said that Min-a and Ha-bin did meet once again in private, after what happened in the first episode. He also told Tae-soo that Ha-bin had stolen Min-a’s mobile, and the latter was constantly pestering her to return it to her. Tae-soo connected the dots, and he realized that the burner phone he found in Ha-bin’s bag belonged to Min-a. She told Tae-soo that after that, she hadn’t heard from Min-a. Park Ji-yeon made it very clear to Tae-soo that she would reveal everything she knew about his daughter if he didn’t make sure that the police released him. Tae-soo didn’t have to do anything, as due to a lack of evidence, the police officers had to eventually let Park Ji-yeon go anyway. By the end of episode 2, we didn’t come to know what happened to Min-a, if she was dead or alive. However, one thing that became very clear was that she probably was the victim and not the perpetrator. All evidence once again pointed towards Ha-bin, and Tae-soo was clueless about how to navigate his way through this difficult situation.

Was Ha-bin responsible for Min-a’s death?

A list of suspects was created, which consisted of all those names that made a phone call from in and around the crime scene, where the pool of blood and the burnt-down car were found. Ha-bin’s name was on that list, and Tae-soo, after noticing, didn’t tell anybody. Gu(Koo) Dae-hong found out that Ha-bin and Tae-soo were related, and he realized that Tae-soo had been snooping around behind their backs. Everybody whose name was on the list was being contacted by the police, as they wanted to know if the suspect had a strong alibi or not. There were certain things that Ha-bin did that made her father and the viewers suspect her actions. Firstly, there was a locked drawer in her room, and Tae-soo knew that there was something inside it that could link his daughter to the crime. Secondly, Ha-bin came to Tae-soo’s office in his absence, and she read the case file. She learned about the red microfiber, and she immediately burned the red keyring that she had in her possession. Though it can’t be said as of now that Ha-bin was the murderer, it can be safely assumed that she knew something about the entire fiasco that she was not revealing.

At the end of Doubt episode 2, police came knocking at Tae-soo’s doorstep. He stood there looking at Ha-bin, not knowing what to do in that situation. Just moments before the police arrived, Tae-soo confronted Ha-bin and asked her if she had killed Song Min-a. In a very cryptic manner, she asked her father if he thought what happened with her brother and mother was merely an accident. Tae-soo didn’t know what to make out of it; he didn’t know if she was just saying everything in anger and sarcasm or if she actually meant it. Nonetheless, in the subsequent episodes, we will learn what Ha-bin actually did. Though on a personal level, I don’t think everything is as straightforward as it seemed, and there are still things that we have no clue about.
