Broly vs Jiren: Who Would Win in a Fight of Villians? (2024)

Seeing two villains fight each other is always very special. Now, when the world of Dragon Ball is concerned, the comparison becomes even more interesting. In order to answer a long-debated question among fans, we have decided to compare two among the franchise’s best villains. In this article, you will find out who the stronger fighter is, Broly or Jiren!

Broly would win in a fight against Jiren. Both of these villains are extremely powerful and they are on a grand scale, but as was informally confirmed out-of-universe, Broly was the strongest non-deity villain that Goku and his friends fought, meaning that he is significantly stronger than Jiren.

Speaking of Broly vs Jiren, there’s still a lot to be said. Throughout the rest of this article, we will look at their powers in more detail and see how the fight between Broly and Jiren would play out.

Broly and his powers

Broly is a non-canon character created by Shigeyasu Yamauchi, although a new version of Broly, rewritten by Akira Toriyama with a much different storyline, appeared in the canon sometime later.

Personality and psyche

Broly’s gentle and shy character when he has his tiara in his normal state stands in stark contrast to his destructive and cruel demeanor when transformed. It is as if the gigantic power that was in him was dragging him into a rush of destructive madness, against which he cannot fight.

We notice that when he was a child, he could already transform into a Super Saiyan, but not yet at the ultimate stage. He also hurt his father in this state. Just before his father forcibly placed the tiara on him, we noticed, likewise, that although he had just woken up, that he was speaking respectfully to Paragus, before he realizes that his father is up to something.

It became clear that Broly is mentally unstable, and that he suffers from behavior that falls within the scope of a bipolar disorder or something similar. Absence, fury and joy are the main emotions that animate him, but like all Super Saiyans, once transformed, Broly demonstrates relative self-control.

Saiyan powers

Since Dragon Ball Z’s Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan, he has a somewhat different physique than other Super Saiyans. In his normal state, he has black hair like other Saiyans, but already has a very impressive build for his size and his musculature.

At this level, Broly’s power is already very high and he is immune to Vegeta’s attacks. At the Legendary Super Saiyan stage, his musculature increases dramatically, his eyes turn white (without pupils) and his hair is straightened into thin golden strands, but his aura can give them a greenish color.

He becomes fierce, his power increases considerably and he shows himself capable of adapting to his opponent regardless of the latter’s power. Over the course of the fight, he manages to transform into a Super Saiyan on his own.

Seeing his father being killed before his eyes, Broly totally loses control of himself and transforms into a maximum power Super Saiyan, where there his hair is green, like the Legendary Saiyan from the Dragon Ball Z movies. Broly’s power is then limitless and nothing can stop him, such that he manages to easily prevail over two Saiyans transformed into Super Saiyan Blue.

Transformation

In the film, he transformed into a giant ape when he was sent to the asteroid Vampa when he was younger. This transformation is not shown in the film, though. On Earth, Broly first transforms into a rabid ape.

He is no longer able to transform into a giant ape because, according to Paragus, Broly no longer has his tail and cannot seem to contain the power of the giant ape within him. In this form, Broly’s hair is spiky and stays black, and his eyes turn slightly golden.

Jiren and his powers

Jiren is a member of the Pride Troopers team, a team composed of Eleventh Universe warriors fighting for freedom and justice. He is also known as Jiren the Gray and is the strongest warrior of the Eleventh Universe and the strongest warrior of all in the Tournament of Power.

Jiren has no hair or body hair and has large black eyes and small nostrils. He’s a very muscular alien and like all his teammates he wears a red and black uniform, white boots, and gloves.

The name “Jiren” comes from the Japanese word “Renji” which means stove. The character was created by Akira Toriyama himself and is part of the larger canon.

Personality and morals

Jiren is a very silent and cold-tempered warrior, and he is the only member of the Pride Troopers who does not perform artistic poses before fighting. The great confidence he has in himself sometimes leads him to be arrogant; this is due to his belief that he is the strongest, moreover he usually only intervenes in the clashes if the situation becomes critical.

Jiren is devoted to justice and the welfare of all, which he puts above all else, and never acts for selfish reasons, in fact, he refuses to kill even the wicked.

However, he considers strength as the only possible and valid means to obtain justice, and initially considers friendship as nothing more than a weakness, even if, after losing the Tournament of Power, he will learn to give more importance to teamwork and friendships.

Despite this, Toppo considers him as his best friend.

Jiren’s master, the great warrior Gicchin, who had introduced Jiren to the Pride Troopers in hopes that he could learn the value of cooperation, was killed by a criminal who according to the animated series had also killed Jiren’s parents.

Fighting skills and abilities

Jiren’s strength is said to surpass that of a God of Destruction (although that is not quite correct), and he is able to throw powerful punches hitting from a distance thanks to the air displacements generated, is extremely fast, boasts a very high physical resistance and is able to predict and parry with ease.

His Chi is so high that it creates impenetrable energy barriers around him with the mere presence of him. In the manga, he also uses a device that allows him to shrink his enemies and is able to travel from one planet to another with ease making it faster than a spaceship.

Jiren takes starts in the Tournament of Power with the sole purpose of winning the super dragon balls and resurrecting his master, although he does not appreciate the idea of other universes being destroyed in the process.

During the Tournament of Power, Jiren eliminates Hit from the Sixth Universe and Vegeta also; in the anime, he also eliminates Maji Kayo from the Third Universe and Roshi in the manga.

He will fight several times against Goku, who will be able to overcome him in the strong power of the Ultra Instinct, which the Saiyan will unleash during the clash with Jiren, and in the end, Jiren during the clash with Goku and Frieza is beaten by falling from the ring of the Tournament together with the two opponents, making sure that the last remaining warrior in the Tournament of Power was C-17.

Broly vs Jiren: Who would win?

And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two characters and analyze how all these facts would (or would not) help them in a fight against each other. Let us continue.

This one seemed to be rather complex, not only because of the characters themselves but also because of the opinions circulating online. Namely, a lot of people seem to think that Jiren is stronger, and based on a superficial interpretation of the manga, that might seem true. But it’s not that simple, no.

Namely, we do know that both Broly and Jiren are extremely overpowered and that they are among the strongest villains in the franchise. It has been suggested that they might be stronger than Beerus as well, but that is far from the truth; Beerus is several levels above these two.

Now, the manga doesn’t make this situation quite clear, but from what we can infer, based on the fights that Broly and Jiren had with Goku and his friends, Broly seems to be at least 400 times stronger than Jiren, as he managed to reach a level of power that was exactly 400 times stronger than the level used to defeat Jiren.

In addition to that, an old Twitter post referring to one of the movies confirmed that Broly was the strongest character that Goku had to face, and that he might even be more powerful than Beerus, although the latter was proven to be incorrect.

This is why we have Broly as the winner here. Sure, Jiren is powerful and he looks kind of scary, but when compared to Broly, that’s all there is to it. Broly would probably obliterate Jiren without much effort.
