20 Funny Hindi Songs of Classic Bollywood: These Songs Are Hilarious!
Sometimes, you just want a really authentic, full-on laugh. This article is all about some of the great funny Hindi songs of the past. Many of these you yourself may remember as songs that made you laugh. Perhaps these funny songs still do make you laugh!
The other day, I was watching the Times Now weekend show that featured some of the best old Hindi comedy songs of yesteryear. I was inspired and decided to compile my own list of the best funny Hindi songs. All these songs are excellently written and in one form or the other will evoke positive feelings. If the lyrics alone don't do anything for you, make sure you watch the video and crank up the volume.
Let's start with Lara Lappa Lara Lappa. Enjoy!
1. Lara Lappa Lara Lappa Layee Rakh Da - Ek Thi Ladki (1949)

The song produced instant fame for Meena Shorey and Ek Thi Ladki, the film she's most known for. The movie revolves around Meena Shorey, who shares the stage with other legendary actors such as Motilal and Inderjeet Singh Johar.
This light-hearted funny Punjabi-Hindi song is one of my personal favorites, just because of the lyrics and the free-flowing tune. (Don’t forget this is one of the early hits sung by Lata Mangeshkar.)
This song might be considered the peak in Meena Shorey's career. Her later years were less glamorous since she experienced poverty then. She even reportedly begged at a Pakistani film function to marry her sister's daughter as a last-ditch attempt. She quietly passed away in 1989 and the burial was paid for by charity.
Rest in Peace, Meena Shorey. Let's listen to this song in honor of her best.
2. Bholi Soorat Dil Ke Khote - Albela (1951)

While this isn't a traditional comedy song, it's still very funny in its own way.
The lyrics are especially meaningful, considering the way of life that existed during this era. Songs from this time often overwhelm me with their realistic themes. Also, while I'm not a choreographer, I personally feel that the tender dance steps of Bhagwan Dada inspired Amitabh Bachchan, who took off from there and started his trademark dance moves.
3. Jaane Kahan Mera Jigar Gaya Ji - Mr. & Mrs. '55 (1955)

- Singer: Geeta Dutt and Mohammed Rafi
This song depicts Johnny Walker and Vinita Bhatt (better known as Yasmin in Bollywood circles) during their office lunch break.
That being said: do we need anything else aside from Johnny Walker to make a song funny?
This is a fun love song sung by Geeta Bali and Mohammad Rafi. The lyrics are even better than the music and infuses a sense of intrigue that manages to make the song sound sweet as well.
4. Sar Jo Tera Chakraaye - Pyaasa (1957)

- Lyrics: Sahir Ludhiyanvi
- Singer: Mohammed Rafi
This is a legendary song from a legendary film. The film, which is just as awesome, is actually about very serious issues. However, this song doesn't feel out of place at all and actually provides a nice balance in the movie.
Even after more than six decades, the soundtrack from this movie is both relevant and an inspiration to many lyricists and composers. So much so that the movie received an award from the British Film Institute in 2004 for its heartwarming songs.

5. Eena Meena Deeka - Aasha (1957)

Some trivia for all you Bollywood buffs: This song, sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar, is touted as the first rock and roll number of the Hindi cinema.
This song was inspired by a group of small children that were playing outside music composer C. Ramachandra's studio. This clearly shows us the level of creativity that C. Ramachandra has, seeing as how he just made something so beautiful out of images and thin air.
The lyrics were completed by Rajendra Krishnan, but the initial words were of the creative mind of CR. He is also one of the few music directors who has composed music for different languages including Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Bhojpuri, and Telugu.
6. Main Bambai Ka Babu - Naya Daur (1957)

- Singer: Mohammed Rafi
This fun number comes to life with Rafi's vocal chords. It also evokes an image of Johnny Walker's face fairly well. This is also undoubtedly one of the first songs on Bambai/Bombay. Just watch the video below to take full advantage of the song.
Notes: Observe how JW dances, with his gentle steps, and how he's able to make Dilip Kumar and Vyjanthimala believe his newly earned status as a Bambai Ka Babu.
7. Hum The Woh Thi - Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958)

- Singer: Kishore Kumar
This is one of the many songs that made Kishore Kumar the legend that he is today. The song's mid-tempo is perfect for creating an appropriate setting. There is something of Kishore Kumar that manages to always brings a smile on our faces, anytime he's on-screen.
Also, the film went on to become a hit. Do I even need to mention the fact that this is a comedy movie considering Kishore Kumar acted in it? Check it out some Kishore movies for yourself.
8. Hum Kaale Hai To Kya Hua - Gumnaam (1965)

Yet again, another serious film with a fun number to balance things out. Mehmood is a maestro with unmatched skills to bring life to all his performances. Personally, I think he is the first comedian of the Indian cinema. Do you agree?
This song is one of the best from Mahmood, Helen, and Mohammad Rafi.

9. O Meri Maina Tu Maan Le Mera Kehna - Pyaar Kiye Jaa (1966)

Not only should you carefully listen to this song, but you must watch the video for even bigger laughs. The free-flowing dance number from Mumtaz and Mehmood just adds to the flare of the song.
The film did very well at the box office, with incredibly high gross earnings, and Mehmood also received the Filmfare award for the best comedian in 1966 for this movie.
10. Bade Miyan Deewane Aise Na Bano - Shagird (1967)

Want to impress the ladies with some basic tips? This song is for you single guys ready to mingle (or just any male who wants to impress a female, of course.)
Shaagird is about I.S. Johar, who is a college professor and a bachelor, and Joy Mukherjee, his student, who tries to find him a suitable match. The crux of the movie is about changing a seasoned bachelor's mind, his change over the course of the film, and finding the right lady to marry. Seeing as how the lyrics of this song perfectly match up with that, this song perfectly captures the essence of Shaagird.
11. Ek Chatur Naar - Padosan (1968)

- Singer: Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, and Mehmood
First things first, as a big fan of this movie, let me just start off by giving it some praise. Padosan has it all: love, comedy, and of course, a touch of mystery and uncertainty.
If you have already watched this movie, then go on and enjoy this beautiful movie once again. This song is just one of many moments where the viewers get incredibly worked up and excited. Simply put, it's just an awesome song once again from Kishore Kumar and others.
12. Meri Bhains Ko Danda Kyun Maara - Pagla Kahin Ka (1970)

- Singer: Manna Dey
This song has an unmatched performance from none other than Shammi Kapoor. This energetic performance by SK definitely gets listeners to shake a leg.
The movie is also very good—the film is a story about a guy (played by Kapoor) who ends up in a mental asylum because of his desire for love and friendship. Watch the movie to find out how—you won't be disappointed. Especially because of the rare combination of actors including Prem Chopra, Aasha Parekh, Helen, and of course Shammi Kapoor.
13. Do Bechare Bina Sahare - Victoria No. 203 (1972)

- Singer: Kishore Kumar and Mahendra Kapoor
Victoria No. 203 features a disgruntled Pran and Ashok Kumar as they look for the keys to a lock. Do Bechare Bina Sahare is the trademark
This film also highlighted the versatility of actors Pran and Ashok Kumar and brought that to the forefront. Prior to this, they were known to play only serious roles. Kalyanji Anandji created all the music, which ended up being a hit, while the movie was a super-hit according to box office reports.
14. Muthu Kodi Kawari Hada - Do Phool (1973)

- Singer: Asha Bhosle and Mehmood
This is another song where Mahmood takes the cake and tries to kiss Rama Prabha, who is well known for her Telugu films. As a South Indian (Tamil), I can also tell you what the first line of the song means (while the rest of the song is in Hindi and therefore easily understood).
The song's first sentence is Muthu Kodi Kawari Hada, which roughly translates to: give a kiss, dear. 'Muthu' means kiss, 'Kodi' means give, and the remaining two words are included simply because they rhyme well with the song.
15. Saa Re Gaa Maa Geet Pehle Bana Tha - Chupke Chupke (1975)

- Singer: Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar
Chupke Chupke is a landmark film, especially for the leading actors Amitabh, Dharamji, Sharmila Tagore, and the director Hrishikesh Mukherjee. They went on to garner tremendous praise from the general public and Bollywood critics for this film. This also went on to start a trend known as the "Hrishikesh Mukherjee" style of films.
The song is great. Even if you don't find it that funny, you have to appreciate Amitabh and Dharmendra's first class chumminess. Not to mention, there's also Sharmila Tagore's hilariously unusual laugh at the end of this video.
16. My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves - Amar Akbar Anthony (1977)

- Singer: Amitabh Bachchan and Kishore Kumar
Listening to this song brings back fond memories of my childhood. It's probably one of the first films I've watched and the super amazing Amitabh Bachchan at his very best. The opening lines of the song are in English, where AB speaks almost nonstop, while the song is actually sung by the great Kishore Kumar.
The opening lines: "You see the whole country of the system / is a juxtaposition by the hemoglobin in the atmosphere / because you are sophisticated rhetorician / intoxicated by the exuberance of your own publicity."
Also, the rest of the music in the film is awesome as well, including songs: Anhony Ko Honi, Shirdi Wale, and Tayyab Ali.
17. Golmaal Hai Bhai Sab Golmaal Hai - Gol Maal (1979)

Yes indeed, Golmaal Hai Bhai Sab Golmaal Hai. No other commentary needed. Listen to this wonderful song!
18. Thande Thande Pani Se Nahana Chahiye - Pati Patni Aur Woh (1978)

- Singer: Mahendra Kapoor and Poornima Shrestha
Sanjeev Kumar was known for his character acting and has had movie roles in possibly every genre. This movie, Pati Patni Aur Woh, and Angoor were all excellent comedy movies from him. I didn't even know that Sanjeev Kumar is picturized in this song until recently, but regardless, this song is a smash hit.
19. Khaike Pan Banaraswala - Don (1978)
- Music by: Kalyanji Anandji
- Lyrics: Anjaan
- Singer: Kishore Kumar
Yet another song from the superstar that you and I must have listened to at least a hundred times, no? People are still remaking this song into remixes and earning money from the magic created by Kalyanji-Anandji. Even though you've probably heard it already, have another listen.
20. Mere Angane Mein - Laawaris (1981)
- Music by: Kalyanji-Anandji
- Lyrics: Anjaan
- Singer: Amitabh Bachchan
Mere Angane Mein is just a really special song. So much so that the song became more popular than the movie. And in the end, it became the film this song was created for, rather than being a song on the soundtrack of this movie. Amitabh's mannerisms are also especially noteworthy.
