You can start your day by heading to one of the main bustling areas of Jodhpur, around the Sardar Market and clock tower.

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (12)

It’s around here that you can find an omelette shop.

These are listed in India travel guidebooks, and as a result, they get a bunch of people wanting to try out the famous egg sandwiches.

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (13)

Eggs are pretty much all they do at the omelette shop. And considering all they do is eggs, they had a pretty big variety on their menu with a list of over 10 different egg menu items.

This type of β€œomelette” is basically beaten and fried eggs served with bread as a sandwich.

If you’re looking for something more filling, give a try to the β€œali baba” omelette which is a thicker sandwich.

The plain omelette has potential to fill you up too. As pictured below, it goes bread – egg – bread – bread – egg – bread.

The prices of these popular egg sandwiches range from 30 rupees (less than 50 cents) for the plain omelette to 80 rupees (just over US$1) for the bigger ali baba omelette.

Get lost on the blue streets of the Blue City

Cost: FREE!

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (15)

Jodhpur is known as the Blue City because there are parts of the city in which tons of buildings are painted blue.

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (16)

Since Jodhpur is known as the Blue City, one of the top things to do in Jodhpur is to walk through the blue streets!

The audio tour from the Jodhpur’s fort explains why Jodhpur buildings are blue:

  1. This color keeps it cooler in hot weather
  2. This color acts as a natural insect repellent

They actually explained it as why the city uses the β€œindigo” color. They didn’t call it blue.

One of the best ways to find these blue streets could be to just start walking towards the Mehrangarh Fort after you’re finished eating your omelette.

The fort is a couple of miles away from the Sardar Market, so this could be a good way to get lost and wander the alleys that are lined with buildings painted blue.

You may not be walking along the blue streets immediately, but if you try to go in the general direction of the fort, chances are that you will soon find yourself surrounded by blue buildings!

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (17)

Even in areas that look really blue from far away, not all buildings are painted blue. But enough of them are that when you look at an aerial view of this section of the Jodhpur, it can really appear like a β€œblue city”!

Visit to Mehrangarh Fort

Cost:600 rupees (US$10) for foreigners. Walking around the grounds is free.

So after exploring the blue streets of Jodhpur, hopefully you will eventually find yourself at Jodhpur’s famous fort.

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (19)

Rajasthan can be considered a land of forts, and Jodhpur is home to one of the massive forts!

This fort dates back to the 15th century.

Today, descendants of the royal family that lived in this fort during its prime have took it upon themselves to preserve the fort and open it to the public for viewing.

This includes the fort palace as part of a museum.

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (20)

Walking around the fort grounds is free.

There are a few parts that will give you grand views of Jodhpur without formal entrance to the fort palace, including the blue section of the city.

Visit the Jodhpur stepwell

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (21)

A visit to the stepwell can be a good way to end your day in a low-key way.

The stepwell in Jodhpur is called the Tunwarji ka Jhalra.

You’ll return back to where you started your day, as the stepwell is located a few minutes walk from Sardar Market and the clock tower.

It could also be good to stay at a guesthouse in this area too.

You can spend as little time or as much time sitting here as you want, as it can be a good place to just sit back and relax on the steps.

Rooftop restaurant with views of the stepwell and fort

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (22)

Just near the stepwell is an alley that you walk down to reach a rooftoop restaurant called the Stepwell Cafe. They serve western food here.

It has 3 levels to choose from, so be sure to walk up the stairs so you can see all of your choices!

You can choose to eat and drink with views of the stepwell or views of the fort too.

There are some cozy seating choices, including a couch and some cushions.

Overall this cafe provides a comfortable atmosphere which can make it a perfect place to go at the end of the day.

Watch local kids jumping into the stepwell

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (23)

Now this is what can make this stepwell in Jodhpur a must-visit!

Kids will be kids!

If you’re lucky, you can be treated to quite a spectacle if you happen to be at the stepwell at a time when the local kids decide to make a splashdown into the stepwell.

Some of them do it cannonball style, and some attempt a more traditional dive.

They jump in from the lower parts, and some daring kids jump in from a rather high point, impressing everyone who’s watching!

Instead of cliff jumping, this is jumping into water Rajasthani-style – stepwell jumping!

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (24)

One staff member at the Stepwell Cafe said the stepwell is 100m deep.

Jumping into the stepwell does seem to be an illegal activity, as eventually police came and the kids all scattered.

I saw one officer chasing after one kid who eventually got caught.

The officer was holding the kid by the arm and appeared to be scolding at him, although I’m not sure what type of consequences, if any, there were aside from that.

It seems like local kids jumping into the stepwell is a regular occurrence.

DAY 2 IN JODHPUR

Nature walk through trails of the desert rock park

Cost: 100 rupees (US$2)

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (25)

If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Jodhpur without going too far, this is it!

If you’re looking for a hike around Jodhpur, this is it!

The Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park is a nature park that you can also consider to be a type of botanical garden in Jodhpur.

The visitor’s center reports that the rocks of the area are volcanic rocks formed from lava flows that covered parts of Rajasthan 750 million years ago. If you like geology, you may particularly enjoy a visit to this park!

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (26)

There are a number of nature trails, each around 1 km long. You’ll see plants that are native to the desert.

As per the name of the park, you’ll quite literally find rocky trails, and you will see rock formations all around.

There is a free audio tour that you can listen to as you walk along one of the trails. You can actually even listen to it now!

Check the app called β€œTrip My Way: India Travel Guide,” and then look for Jodhpur and the Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park. Then listen to the introduction to see if this is something you want to further explore once you’re in Jodhpur.

This isn’t too far from the main part of the city, and it can be worth a visit if you’re looking for a little bit of quiet compared to Sardar Market.

You might still be able to hear the rickshaws honking in the distance when you’re in some parts of the park, but you can also hear the birds chirping quite clearly too!

Hilltop temple walk with some of the best views in Jodhpur

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (27)

This is a short but strenuous walk.

It’s more like a massive stair climbing session.

I actually stumbled across this as I was making my way back to the main part of Jodhpur. I saw a set of stairs, and wondered where it could lead to!

Stairs in Jodhpur tend to lead to amazing views of the city.

And at the top of these stairs, there was a temple… and an amazing view of the fort and the city!

According to Google Maps, it looks like the name of this temple is Tekri Mata Temple.

Visit to the Taj Mahal of Marwar

Cost:50 rupees (less than $1) for foreigners

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (28)

The Jaswant Thada was built as a memorial to a member of the Jodhpur royal family. On the grounds are also areas where other members of the royal family have been cremated.

This historical monument has been called the Taj Mahal of Marwar, with Marwar referring to a former kingdom of the royals that encompassed the city of Jodhpur.

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (29)

This place can be a convenient stop on your way back to the city from the desert rock park. The grounds here also offer up views of Jodhpur from above.

This can be a quick visit of around 30 minutes. Or you can stay for a lot longer and enjoy the peace of the gardens and the rest of the Jaswant Thada grounds.

Rooftop restaurant with views of the fort

2 day Jodhpur itinerary πŸ‘‘ BEST places to visit in Jodhpur πŸ‘‘ Backpacking Rajasthan, North India - Flashpacking Kerala (30)

Since the fort is one of the major icons of Jodhpur, it can be perfect to find a rooftop restaurant that hasviews of the fort. The one pictured here is called Indique, which is located at the Pal Haveli Hotel.

This setting can be a good day to end your day!
